Someone recently asked me a question that changed my life. “Where do you see yourself in ten years?" Seems like a simple enough question, right? But for the first time in my life I closed my eyes and visualized myself in ten years. In that vision I wasn’t doing anything extravagant. I wasn’t living in a multimillion-dollar beach house in Bali. I wasn’t in an overpriced, ultra modern High-rise in London. I was simply doing my best to spread positivity and make the world a little bit better. So, rather than wait ten years to start pursing that vision, I have decided to start doing something now and I couldn’t be more excited.
Understanding our potential and our self-worth is so important. Today I was reminded of this as I watched Cinderella with my nieces. She’s handed a pretty bad hand in life. Both of her parents are gone, she lives with two horrible step sisters, and she has a step mother who tries her best to keep her from understanding her true potential by treating her as a servant rather than a daughter. Through her trials she stays positive and continues to hold onto her Mother’s words “I have to tell you a secret that will see you through all the trials that life can offer. Simply have courage and be kind”. She is ragged, overworked, covered in cinders, and is fed lies by her step mother that she is simply not good enough. This servant girl is the last person you would expect to make an impact on the world, however, she is miraculously made to look like a princess for one night by her Fairy Godmother. The night is full of magic and love with the prince until midnight strikes and she returns home to her ragged, overworked, cinder filled life. We all know the story doesn’t end here. Eventually the prince finds her and places the glass shoe she left behind on her foot and she becomes his Queen to rule the kingdom by his side
This is real life! Hear me out. You may not meet a real-life prince (or princess) after years of searching, you may not become Queen (or King) of a small kingdom, but I believe there is something real to learn here. Often, we feel like we aren’t good enough in life. We tell ourselves we aren’t good enough for that promotion. We aren’t good enough to go out and meet people. We aren’t a good enough parent to our children. This is all lies, guys! We may be ragged and overworked in life, but that doesn’t mean we can’t come out victorious. We have the chance to change everything by understanding our potential within. It doesn’t matter where you have been in life or what lies you have come to believe, we are capable of anything. Toward the end of the movie you hear the narrator say “Would who she was, who she really was, be enough? There was no magic to help her this time. This is perhaps the greatest risk that any of us will ever take to be seen as we truly are”. This is something we all face in life. We risk everything by showing our vulnerability, but the greatest risks often have the greatest reward.
The world constantly tells you “You need to be thinner”, “You’d be happier if you made more money”, “You’d be worthy of love if you could just get that Master’s Degree”. I am here to tell you those are all lies. All of it. You are enough! In fact, you are MORE THAN ENOUGH!! Every extra pound, every mental health disorder, every failure we think we have faced, they make us who we are, and who we are is uniquely beautiful. We all have unlimited potential and self-worth that we just need to tap into to understand we are enough right now as we are.
This is the start of my journey to help make the world a better place by helping other people understand, regardless of your circumstances, you are incredible. You all have Infinite Power. Watch this space because awesome stuff is coming your way! I have some talented writers who are excited to share this journey with me and uplift all of you who join us!
Always remember, “Be kind. Have courage. And all will be well”.
